Who is helped by Executive Rescue?

It would be facile to attempt to describe the 'typical' executive who can be helped; each client is unique. Similarly, stress can affect different people in different ways; high achievers often actually thrive on levels of stress that many would find unacceptable. So stress in itself is not a reliable indicator.

Instead, here is a check list of presenting issues, any of which may be true for somebody who would benefit significantly from the experience of Executive Rescue coaching:

  • Sense of being overwhelmed by responsibilities

  • Fear of 'burn-out' or 'losing the plot'

  • Loss of confidence

  • Lack of clarity and decisiveness

  • Inability to concentrate and prioritise

  • Sense of being isolated - 'lonely at the top'

  • Crisis in personal life - e.g. marriage breakdown, family or personal problems

  • A time of particular business challenge

  • Colleagues have become concerned about an individual's personal wellbeing and/or performance

If you or an executive in your organisation fulfils any of these criteria, then Ruth's specific coaching expertise can provide a very practical solution to turn the situation around.

When is Executive Rescue not appropriate?

It is important to distinguish scenarios where Executive Rescue is inappropriate and an alternative solution is indicated. Importantly, Executive Rescue is not suitable in situations where an individual is struggling because of an underlying medical condition such as clinical depression or substance abuse. In all such cases, medical treatment should be sought; followed perhaps by residential care at a centre such as The Priory where health professionals are in charge of treatment.

If in doubt, taking medical advice is recommended. A thorough check-up will identify if the individual is suffering from any physical or mental health problems that may be contributing to their symptoms of stress.

Equally, embarking on Executive Rescue coaching is not appropriate when the executive is not yet ready to acknowledge that he or she wants or needs help. As with all coaching, this work can only be effective with the agreement of the client.

Broaching the subject can be difficult

Few people in the UK are comfortable acknowledging that they are struggling. This is especially true of those who are used to success and achievement. For such individuals it can be very difficult to accept that they are not coping, leading to denial and adverse reaction to anybody who dares to suggest they seek help.

Deep down, however, each of us knows when we are not at our most resourceful. Then it's a relief to find a trustworthy and effective ally who can genuinely help to restore equilibrium and well-being.
